Christmas Lights

As we were driving home one night and SweetPea noticed a few houses decorated for Christmas. As we pulled into our driveway SweetPea said "Excuse me Mom and Dad, I want lights on my house."

Dancing Partners

SweetPea: I don't have a boy.
Luna: What do you mean?
SweetPea: I don't have a boy. Banana has Bubba. They can dance.
Hubbs: Who do I dance with?
(SweetPea points to Luna)
SweetPea: There's a boy in your tummy. His name is (Luna can't remember the name right now. I will ask SweetPea and fill this in later)

So I asked SweetPea, and she doesn't remember.
Luna: What's the name of the little boy in Daddy's tummy?
SweetPea: I don't know. You tell me!

How do you get someone to smile for the camera?

SweetPea says "Dude, com'on, smile for the camera."

I guess she is a California girl. She says things like this all the time.

Beeper

SweetPea's booster seat for the dinner table made a noise like a bodily function. Of course Hubbs and I were teasing her to say excuse me. SweetPea said "I'm not the beeper!"

Making Hand Turkeys

Today we went to a Thanksgiving party for our Moms' group. SweetPea was making a Hand Turkey. You know the kind where you trace your hand and then draw a face and feet on it to make it look like a turkey. SweetPea traced her hand on the paper and handed it to me and asked "Mom, will you cut my hand off?"

What time is it?

a little over a week ago I took Banana into the Doctor for her reflux. It was a LONG day. I had talked to the nurse the day before, she is so sweet, she called me well past office hours because she was on her way out of town. She told us to head in to the office for walk in hours, which start at 1 pm. We had to drop MeeMaw off at the airport around noon, then I took the kids to Burger King to get our tummy's full, so we wouldn't be as cranky. SweetPea got a watch in kid's meal.

When we got to the office we found out the walk-in hours would start late because the Doctor had gone to early voting and was caught in a line. So things wouldn't start until 2 pm. So we waited. Unfortunately that cuts into nap time, yuck!

After a lot of crying and whining and waiting it was almost time to go. We just had to wait at the front for our referral for Banana's Barium study. The receptionist saw SweetPea's watch and complimented her on it. Then she asked her what time it was. SweetPea said "Time to go home!" Everyone in earshot started laughing.

Headache

SweetPea was sick with the flu. I was trying to figure out to what extent her symptoms were.

Luna: Does your head hurt?
SweetPea: No, just my brain... in my forehead

How to get kids to be nice

Last night Hubbs made some homemade ice cream and lava cakes. When he was done he went around asking everyone if they wanted any. When he got to SweetPea, this is what happened.

Hubbs: Do you want some cake and ice cream?
SweetPea: yes
Hubbs: OK (and he walked back to the kitchen.)

SweetPea: (to Mommy and MeeMaw) Dad is getting me cake and ice cream, I will be nice now

As a note, I am not sure where SweetPea got this idea from. We don't use treats or rewards for good behavior. But it made me laugh for awhile.

AS a second note, the next morning the cakes were still on the counter. I was updating our calendar when I heard something behind me. I turned around to find Bubba with a face covered in chocolate and a chocolate covered thumb. He is just like little Jack Horner. He samples everything with his thumb!

Candy

One morning SweetPea climbed into bed with me. She saw some candy on my nightstand and asked for it. I told her she might be able to have some later, and the conversation moved to another topic. After awhile this exchange occurred:

Luna: I like you SweetPea.
SweetPea: I like cand

Dora on the Phone

So yesterday I heard a story about SweetPea. She can be quite imaginative. This leads to a lot of funny discussions. But this one I didn't know about.

Apparently a few weeks ago SweetPea was in Sunday School and she reached into her pocket and took out a pretend Cell phone and announced that Dora was on the phone. She began to get up and walk out the door when her teacher ask if she could see the phone. Her teacher spoke with Dora on the phone to let her know that SweetPea was at church and could not talk on the phone right now, but SweetPea would call her back after church when she got home. SweetPea's teacher also let Dora know that no one else will be calling SweetPea because she is in church and they know that. Dora promised not to call anymore during church. SweetPea's teacher handed back the phone and had SweetPea put it back in her pocket. A few minutes later SweetPea started to reach for her "phone" again and said that it was ringing. SweetPea's teacher said it "it better not be Dora, She promised she wouldn't call during church anymore." SweetPea never answered the phone.

Comment:
Kelly - I've heard a few hilarious stories about Micah from Primary teachers and presidency members, all of which are really only funny if he's not your kid!

Naming the baby

This is from awhile back, but I was just reminded of it.

One day I was making a list of possible names for the baby (I was pregnant with Banana, but we didn't know the gender yet.)

SweetPea: What are you doing?
Luna: Writing down possible names for the baby? What do you think we should name the baby?
SweetPea: (after a contemplative pause) Jesus Christ!
Luna: I'll write it down, but I don't think we can use it. What if we have a girl, what should her name be.
SweetPea: SweetPea!
Luna: I think both of those names are taken.

When I went in for my big ultrasound when I was pregnant with Banana we took the kids. SweetPea enjoyed watching it all. Right after the ultrasound we were taken to a room to see the doctor. We had to wait a bit. SweetPea decided to act out the ultrasound. First she practiced on me. Then she had me give her an ultrasound. My whole pregnancy SweetPea referred to my belly as my "baby tummy." At that appointment, after her "ultrasound" she announced she had a "Doggy Tummy"

Big Booty

After my birthday we had a bit of cake left so SweetPea and I shared it. I was then going to throw out the rest. So SweetPea took the last little bits of dried out frosting to munch on and I tossed the rest away. A few minutes later she went to the kitchen and saw that the cake was gone.
SweetPea: Mom, did you eat my cake?
Luna: Mom and SweetPea ate the cake.
SweetPea: Mom you eat my cake. Your Booty is going to get big… My booty is going to get big

A few days later I had an appt to go to. So I packed up the kids and headed for the appt. We were waiting for our names to be called. SweetPea and Bubba were playing, not too wildly, but I wasn’t too worried because there was hardly anyone else there. We were in the front row about 8-10 ft from the front desk. SweetPea came and sat down beside me just as a large woman approached the desk to turn in some paperwork.
SweetPea: Why is that mommy giant?
Luna: All mommies are giant or tall compared to little kids. (She sometimes uses the word giant instead of tall)
SweetPea: Why is the Mommy’s Booty so giant?
I really did not know what to say at this point. I wasn’t sure if I could pull off a pirate’s voice well enough to change the booty from a behind into treasure, nor did I think anyone else in the room would buy it. So I then made it my goal to make my kids the perfect kids. (I have found that ladies of the South have no problem talking very loudly about other people’s children with anyone around. We live in “spare the rod spoil the child-ville” So I knew all eyes were on us and everyone had to sit perfectly quiet with hands folded in laps from that point forward.) Luckily we were called back very shortly.

Ants Hole

I was getting ready to give SweetPea a bath when she said, "Do I have ants?" and she starts to put her hand in her bum. I am trying to get her to stop putting her hand in her bum. But she keeps asking about the ants. Then she bends over and opens up her butt and asks about the ants, so I finally said... "there are no ants, where are the ants?" her response. "in my hole. My ants hole." I was laughing so hard. I have no idea where she got this. But Hubbs and I were crying and laughing so hard for so long. I finally composed myself and finished bathing her and got her a new pull up and told her there were no ants. There never will be ants, and not to talk about the ants in her pants anymore

Comment:
Shannon - Oh my gosh I am crying about the ants hole. I think that is sooooo funny. Oh my goodness.
